Nathalie M. Vega Crespo Receives Doyle Merit Award

2016 Apr 4

Assumption College senior Nathalie M. Vega Crespo has been named the recipient of the 2016 Doyle Merit Award for Excellence in Economics or Global Studies. Vega Crespo, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, is a double major in economics and political science at Assumption.

The Doyle Merit Award is named for the late Professor George Doyle, Ph.D., who established the economics and global studies program at Assumption College. Each year, the Department of Economics and Global Studies selects a senior who embodies Dr. Doyle's legacy of "extraordinary intellect, recognized community service, and potential within their field." The award carries a $1,500 prize, made possible by generous gifts to the Doyle Scholarship Fund.

As an undergraduate, Vega Crespo has served as a student ambassador to the President's Council, a group of the College's major donors; a resident assistant; vice-chair of the Assumption Pup Cup Committee; as well as a four-year member and current president of the Assumption Latin Dance Team. She has spent three years working with the ALANA (African, Latino/Hispanic, Asian and Native American) Network Cross-Cultural Center, and has volunteered for three years with the Reach-Out Kids Program afterschool club for 5-12 year olds.

Vega Crespo spent two summers interning with the Senate of Puerto Rico in San Juan and interned for the Worcester District Attorney's Office during the summer of 2015. She is currently an intern for the office of Worcester Superior Court Justice James R. Lemire. Vega Crespo plans to attend law school after graduation following a year of faith-based service.

Vega Crespo received her award during a ceremony on March 31.
