Meghan Sampson, of North Billrica, to Perform in Assumption College's Production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

2018 Apr 17

Assumption College's Department of Art, Music and Theatre will present a concert-staged performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat from April 20-22. The performance, which will feature the College's Chorale and student actors performing lead roles, will be presented in the College's new state-of-the-art 400-seat Jeanne Y. Curtis Performance Hall of the Tsotsis Family Academic Center. Meghan Sampson, of North Billrica, will perform as a narrator in the production.

Sampson is a junior psychology and music double major at Assumption College. In high school, she performed in The Music Man (Amaryllis), Two Precious Maidens Ridiculed (Almanzor), Macbeth (Angus), Pippin (Berthe), Penelopiad (suitor, maid, ensemble), and Honk! (Dot). At Assumption, she is an active member of Chorale, VOCE and Music Ministry. She wishes to thank Richard Monroe, Peggy Tartaglia, and her parents and sister for their continued support and encouragement. She also wishes to thank her new musical family from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat.

According to The Musical Company, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which is celebrating its 50th year in 2018, is the "reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors." The story is told entirely through song, and was the first musical collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics). This family-friendly musical follows Joseph's journey as a slave, a prisoner, and ultimately the "right-hand man" of the Pharaoh.

"The College community looks forward to continuing Assumption's tradition of hosting a spring musical, this time, showcasing Assumption's new state-of-the art performance hall," said Richard Monroe '85, who will direct the spring performance. "We are very much looking forward to sharing our unique version of this beloved musical with the community as we showcase not only our new performance hall, but the great artistic talent of Assumption students."

Originally developed as a "pop cantata" for a high school choir performance, Lloyd Webber and Rice expanded their piece into the now beloved musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Since debuting in March of 1968, it has been performed around the world, has earned several Tony Award nominations, and adapted into a film featuring Donny Osmond as Joseph.

Showtimes for Assumption's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat are: April 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $10. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.assumption.edu/joseph.
