2018 Jan 23

The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Mariah Peck, of Suffield, has earned a spot on the 2017-18 Assumption College Women's Track and Field team. Peck, Class of 2018, will compete during the Greyhounds' indoor season this winter, which began in early December, and the outdoor season, which opens on March 23 at for the Bridgewater State University Bears invitational.

Trent Baltzell enters his first season as head coach after being promoted from assistant coach, in which he helped lead the 2016-17 men's team to four school records in jumping, throwing, and multi-event competitions.

"I am beyond excited to continue my coaching career at Assumption," said Baltzell. "We have a tremendous group of student athletes that have helped propel this program to the top of its conference. These student athletes work tirelessly to succeed both in the classroom and on the track to ensure that we reach our team goals."

Coach Baltzell's enthusiasm and love for the sport is mirrored in his athlete's attitudes. The women have had an excellent start to their season, including three new school records set at the Elm City Challenge by Abby Jones '19 in the 55m hurdles, Amelie Legg '21 in the pole vault, and in the 4x200m race. The team has earned a majority of top finishes so far this season and is looking strong as they continue their season. In early January, Olivia St. Germain '21 claimed the coveted title of NE10 Field Rookie of the Week.
