Katelyn Coyle, of Pawtucket, Elected to Student Leadership Position at Assumption College

2017 May 4

The Assumption College Student Government Association (SGA) has announced that Katelyn Coyle, of Pawtucket, has been elected Senator and will serve during the 2017-18 academic year.

The Student Government Association is the governing student body on campus, representing all undergraduate students. The purpose of SGA is to advocate for students and give voice to their opinions to enhance students' experience and encourage their participation in extra-curricular activities. Their work is guided by a constitution and by-laws. Students elected to a leadership position in SGA contribute to the student life climate of the campus community and demonstrate honor, excellence and Greyhound pride.

"Students elected by their peers to the Student Government Association not only demonstrate leadership qualities, but also understand the importance of the student voice in our campus community," said Catherine WoodBrooks, Ph.D., vice president for Student Affairs. "Those students have been chosen by their fellow classmates because they have proven to be responsible trustworthy to serve as the voice of the student body. Students serving on SGA make meaningful contributions to our campus community through their leadership and example."

"SGA has done a lot of work over the past few years in regards to advocating for students and working closely with administration, and next year I will be looking to continue that effort," said Ian Burns, who will serve as SGA President for the 2017-18 academic year. "I will follow in my predecessor's footsteps and represent the student body as their voice, addressing their opinions and concerns. I hope that through more outreach, the entire student body will feel as if they can reach out to us with their problems, because we are truly here to help the students."

SGA is comprised of students elected from each class who are responsible for fundraising, planning events for their class and ultimately their class' Senior Week. Executive officer positions include: president, vice president for financial affairs, vice president for student affairs, vice president for academic affairs, and senate speaker.
