Catherine LeClerc, of Oakville, Recognized by Assumption College for Exemplary Service and Leadership

2017 May 15

On the eve of their commencement, Saturday, May 13, 20 members of Assumption College's Class of 2017, including Catherine LeClerc, Oakville, were honored with the College's prestigious Crown and Shield Award. The Award recognizes students who have distinguished themselves throughout their tenure at the College in the areas of leadership and community service. Award recipients have protected (shield) and furthered (crown) the interests of the student body and Assumption as a whole.

"A cornerstone of an Assumption College education is to encourage students to use their gifts in service to others in need," said Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., president of Assumption College. "During the last academic year, Assumption students selflessly volunteered more than 100,000 hours of their time serving those in the Worcester community and beyond, not because they had to, rather because of a desire to serve. This commitment to volunteerism and service reflects how Assumption students view themselves within, and the contributions they can make, to the larger community, specifically those in the greatest of need."

Crown and Shield recipients are nominated by faculty, staff and administration for their exemplary service and leadership. LeClerc is a management major with a minor in psychology. During her time at Assumption, Catherine was a resident assistant; president of the Residence Hall Association; senior class secretary and Student Government Association (SGA) senator; and served on the Ground & Auxiliary Services, Dining Services, Advertising, Finance, and Policy Evaluation committees. A nominator said, "Catherine is always the one who, regardless of what is going on, recognizes (others) for their hard work and continues to motivate them," adding that her ability to be a "selfless advocate" is but one of the endearing qualities that make her such an effective leader. After graduation, Catherine will be employed at Watts Water Technologies of North Andover as a part of their Human Resource Leadership Development Rotational Program, while completing her MBA part-time at Assumption College.
