Brad Elias Inducted into International English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta

2016 May 4

The Assumption College Department of English has announced that Brad Elias has become a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Elias was inducted into the honor society on Tuesday, April 12.

"We are excited to welcome the new members to Assumption's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta," said Becky DiBiasio, Ph.D., English department chair and one of the honor society's advisors. "It is with great pride that we recognize this group of students for their hard work, discipline, and love for this field of study."

Sigma Tau Delta's purposes are to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature studies in undergraduate, graduate, and professional work; and to promote interest in literature, digital media, creative writing, and critical writing on local campuses and their surrounding communities. Eligible students must have a 3.4 or higher grade point average (GPA) within the major and as an overall GPA.

The Alpha Zeta Beta chapter was installed at Assumption College in 1994. Chapter members have held events to raise money for the National Literacy Project, led Relay For Life teams, and served as volunteer readers in the Worcester Public Schools. Assumption students have represented the College at the annual international conference since 1997. Undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate Chapter members are eligible to apply for Sigma Tau Delta scholarships, fellowships, and internships, participate in international conventions, and submit original written work for publication in The Rectangle, Sigma Tau Delta's international literary magazine.
