Alexis Levine, of Ashland, Serving in Leadership Position of Assumption's ADAPT

The Assumption College Office of Student Activities has announced that Alexis Levine, of Ashland, has been elected, and is currently serving, as President of ADAPT for the 2017-18 academic year.

ADAPT is one of nearly 60 clubs and organizations available to students allowing them the opportunity to network with professionals; take on leadership roles; and use classroom knowledge in the community. The student-run clubs appeal to a variety of interests and include offerings such as academic clubs (French, Italian, Pre-law, etc.); media (College television station, literary magazine and student newspaper, Le Provocateur); honor societies and many more.

"Student involvement is a cornerstone of an Assumption education," said Kaitlin Bevins, director of student activities and leadership development at Assumption. "The College offers a wide array of clubs and organizations-cultural, athletic, and academic, among others. Engagement in student groups help students find their niche and utilize their talents, while building confidence, friendships and leadership skills."

The Assumption Disability Awareness Promotion Team (ADAPT) increases awareness of the diverse spectrum of individuals with disabilities on the Assumption College campus and promotes community outreach. Students on the team aim to create a community based on equality and respect that strives to minimize the stereotypes associated with people with disabilities, to enable rather than disable. Those students elected into a leadership position demonstrate a passion for equality, respect and togetherness.

Assumption College boasts an outstanding academic curriculum as well as a campus rich with student activity. This fall, The Princeton Review included Assumption in its Best 382 Colleges in the nation, in which students highlighted "a great sense of belonging" on campus. Students also lauded the College for engaging and encouraging students to get involved on campus, and making it "easy to meet new people."

Based on a study conducted by USA Today, student success in both the classroom and the professional environment are directly linked to student involvement. Students involved in extracurricular activities consistently outperformed students who were uninvolved. Overall, student involvement correlated with higher grade point averages, more social engagement and more potential job opportunities compared to those who did not participate in student leadership organizations.
